

| The top bowl of the Stanley Cup is a copy of the original bowl purchased by Lord Stanley in 1892. The original bowl became brittle and was replaced in 1969. |

In 1994 a stipulation was added to allow the winning team to petition the league to have a players name engraved on the Cup if extenuating circumstances prevented them from meeting the NHL requirements (ex. Injury, been on the active roster but scratched, etc.) |

| Jean Beliveau’s name appears on the cup 17 times (10 as a player, 7 as management). Henri Richards name has appeared the most on the Stanley Cup 11 times as a player, most for a player. Scotty Bowman’s name appears 7 times, the most for a head coach. |
| Quite a few name have been misspelled on the cup but Jacques Plante’s name has been spelled or misspelled 6 different ways (it was correct one time). |
| The first United States team to win the Stanley Cup was the 1917 Seattle Metropolitans. |
| After winning the Stanley Cup in 1905 the Ottawa Silver Seven decided to celebrate by attempting to kick the cup (which was only the bowl portion at the time) across the Rideau Canal. One player booted the kick which only went half way across the frozen canal and it stayed there overnight before being retrieved the next day. |
| In 1924, The Montreal Canadians won the Stanley Cup and wanted to celebrate by drinking champagne at the home of team owner, Leo Dandurand. On the drive over to the house the car they were traveling in got a flat tire. After changing the flat tire the Canadian players made their way to Dandurand’s home only to forget that they left the cup on the sidewalk when they were changing the tire. They returned to the scene and picked up the cup in the spot they had left it. |
